Book Review: The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity

Now in its third edition, The Next Christendom by Philip Jenkins is a very important book to understand immigrant faith here in America today.  Jenkins is a professor at Pennsylvania State University and a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Institute for Studies of Religion at Baylor University.    Jenkins explains the remarkable expansion of Christianity in the Global South – in Africa, Asia and Latin America – and how urbanization and poverty has impacted the grassroots growth of the church.   Jenkins prophetically warns of a future Global North and Global South divide, with an increasingly skeptical and secular Global North separated from a highly religious and supernatural believing Global South.    Jenkins addresses colonialism, liberation of the poor, prosperity churches, and the role of women.    Oxford University Press.
