Book Review: They Take Our Jobs!: And Twenty Other Myths About Immigration

Aviva Chomsky is a professor of history and the coordinator of Latin American studies at Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts.  In this book, Chomsky addresses common beliefs and concerns about immigrants and immigration.   Writing from a progressive left perspective, questions addressed include:  *Do immigrants take American jobs?  *Do immigrants pay taxes?  *Do immigrants threaten the national culture because they are not assimilating?  *Do immigrants only come to America because they want to enjoy our high standard of living?,  etc.    This book would is a great complement to the previous book I reviewed, “Debating Immigration”, which represents a more conservative right perspective to immigration and immigrants.   Read both sides of the debate!
